 Geomoun

Created in 2000 following a 2-year experience in Haiti, the ASBL GEOMOUN was founded to support the TIMKATEC project (home welcoming street children and offering them primary education). From 2001 Timkatec obtained the Belgian cooperation support as part of the project developed by GEOMOUN together with their Haitian partner.

Geomoun’s philosophy is a very strong one: Encouraging and supporting those who refuse to accept a situation of poverty.

In order to ensure the sustainability of the projects that they support, GEOMOUN want to exclusively focus on local initiatives dealing with a region/country’s socio-economical issue for which the results, clearly set in advance, will be measurable.
The prime focus on supporting local cooperation projects meets one of GEOMOUN’s critical objectives, which is to promote the exchange of culture, and to raise the awareness of the Belgian population on the creativity and know-how of other countries across the world.
Geomoun is specialized in supporting children and women’s rights. They promote the right to self-sufficiency and fulfillment via education and work.

Geomoun comes from ‘Geo’, the World and ‘Moun’ that means a person in Creole. The idea is to create an exchange between people across the world…

Geotimoun comes from ‘Geo’ and ‘Timoun’ meaning a child in Creole. Geotimoun therefore represents Geomoun’s projects specific to children. The Geotimoun website’s objective is to encourage exchange and discovery…

GEOMOUN Key projects:

Across the world:

  • In Haïti: Support of the “TIMKATEC” centre “Timoun k'ap teke chans" in Creole ("Children who try their luck to survive") to welcome and educate homeless children and young girls in domesticity in Haiti. These centers offer these children a home, a professional training but also a place where they can exchange and be looked after.
  • In Bukavu (Kivu, RDC): Provide help for 120 families who cannot afford their children’s education, by improving their revenue generating activities. i.e. provide specialized training, family social support and access to micro-credit organisations.

In Belgium:

  • Today Geomoun is launching an awareness campaign in Belgium with the Mamemo project.
